I didn't see those choices on their menu
Yes
Is the buffer Sunday only? Or is it available other days also? Breakfast and lunch times?
I do believe they have gift cards but not for sure.
Yes my family stopped at the virginia Diner end of September for breakfast the buffet was outstanding everything was fresh we will definitely be returning next year
I eat gluten free but am not a celiac. Many of the vegetable dishes are fine, the pulled pork, roasted chicken, coleslaw are all fine but it is Southern country cooking so lots of breaded foods, biscuits, and even the fantastic carrot souffle is thickened with wheat flour. So if you are extremely sensitive, maybe not a good idea because the kitchen is not gluten free but if you pick carefully from the menu, yes, you can find options that are gluten free. Most of the menu is not gluten free.
Such tasty food! Get the carrot souffle!!! 😃
The lunch/dinner buffet is currently Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 7PM, and Saturday also has a breakfast buffet from 7AM-10AM. The buffet is fully encased with plexiglass and guests are served by the staff from behind the line while they pick out their items, and then are handed their plate at the end of the line.
11AM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We do not offer this during the weekday right now because of the lower traffic volume with the current conditions. We also offer a breakfast buffet on Saturday morning from 7AM-10AM.
Absolutely, and it is good as it has been for years !!!
I expected better. Only half of the staff was wearing masks and most of the customers were not wearing any masks in the lobby area. I'm not sure about the dining area. It was fairly crowded so no one could claim that they were 6 ft apart. I ended up going in to make my order because I had waited 15 minutes on the phone with no answer. At least the food was good.
Food was great!! Had brunch. Country ham, eggs, hashbrowns were just like home cooking. Enjoyed.
Ordered for pickup and upon walking in saw both employees and customers (at least half or more) not social distancing and either not wearing a mask or wearing one improperly (nose out, or taking mask off to talk). I’ve been here before and will attest that their specialities, like Virginia ham and peanuts, are worth a visit. Just not during COVID-19.
Food has been exceptional for many years and the location a landmark.
OH. MY. STARS.I had wanted to eat here for over 20 years. I ate EVERY SINGLE BITE and had one more plate. Then dessert. I about popped. This is like eating at Nannie and Papas house in the 1970's in Nashville. Virginia Diner is what dreams are made of!! The chicken was delectable. Fried. Crispy. Moist. Melt in your mouth. The sides? Green beans with bacon, warm sweet beets, the huge okra was on point! Nothing here was left behind. Dont get me started on the fresh rolls!!!!
I am allergic to beef and pork so not many options for me at breakfast. I had anticipated some type of chicken being available like chicken biscuits, chicken and waffles or turkey sausage or bacon. Sadly none were available
Fantastic dining experience! I guess they may normally have a buffet but with COVID it was a standard restaurant experience with alternating tables empty to keep everyone spaced out. Fried chicken and onion rings were out of this world delicious! I order onion rings everywhere I go as a rule, and these are the best. Spices in the chicken and onion rings are on point! Sweet potato fries and spoon bread were good as well. My wife's ham biscuits were great and the side house salad was good. Warm peanut pie a la mode and chocolate milkshake for dessert were very good as well. Reasonable prices make for an unbeatable value, and service was top notch!
The food and service was excellent. I had country style fried chicken with gravy on it mashed potatoes & collard greens. The collard greens were some of the best I've ever had.
This diner is awesome and the service was outstanding very pleasant place to visit
Excellent food on the buffet, great lunch, will be back. Highly recommend
Traditional Southern Style cuisine. Menu hasn't changed in years. Covid-19 protocol directed their tremendous cooking in a buffet service. Perfectly battered catfish at 1/2 of a seafood restaurant price. I live 45 miles away and have no qualms at driving that distance for the food.
Wonderful "down home" meal. My only complaint was about the banana pudding. It didn't taste homemade - unlike the peach cobbler, which did taste homemade.
Great food, great service. Beautiful remodel.
A favorite local diner on Rt 460 serving country ham biscuits and a popular buffet. They recently remodeled with a nice facelift. The BBQ sandwich was tasty but the onion rings were barely room temperature. The “new” plating on a small tin plate and small fry basket was definitely too small. The waitress was friendly and efficient. They also have a gift shop with a variety of local peanuts, jams, honey, etc along with take home favorite pies and cakes. Unfortunately about 20 people wanted to sit at one table not practicing social distancing during the mandates to protect us from the virus.
The food was great. The service was great. If you have a chance to dine there don't pass it up. Worth every penny it costs.
Awful service. Awful food. We got seated quickly, but somehow ticked off our waitress. She asked if I was ready to order and when I said yes, she walked away. From the time she took our order, it was 45 minutes until our food arrived. Meanwhile, those seated after us were served, ate, and left during that time. I got a chef salad and my husband got 2 ham sliders with fries. When I complained she gave us a whole 15% from our order. Not worth it! She included croutons even when I asked for none due to a GF allergy, no eggs on the salad and then white meat was pink inside. We are from out of town. Not a place that we will ever stop by again.
I am very new to that area, I actually live in Norfolk but I work out in that area and I pass by there every day and I just had to go in and try it. The food was fantastic The portions were huge and the staff was very friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. unfortunately I am bad with names and do not remember the name of our server but she was very nice very polite and made our dining experience wonderful, I definitely look forward to going back there again😺
This place is country cooking all the way almost like grandma's house. They have a buffet. The burgers are large and very tasty. But I did not like the sauce on my burger it had horseradish in it which I didnt care for much.
Great southern style soul food. The desserts were amazing and the service was outstanding. Great family restaurant.
Loved the new interior, first visit since the remodel and their great flood. Food was awesome, better than I remembered.
The Virginia Diner just got remodeled in the modern farmhouse style! Absolutely beautiful!
There was no waiting to be noticed. The waitresses are on the ball with ensuring you have your stomach's desire.
Friendly staff and server! Bought peanuts and a s'mores cookie then Tuesday's special Philly cheese steak. Fries served in a, no joke, a mini fry basket.
Three of us out of four got fried chicken and we all agree the chicken was moist crispy and seasoned well. Personally the best fried chicken I have had in a very long time. I also had the pulled pork bbq and it was tasty. Our 4th person (the main reason we went) got centered cut ham because he enjoyed it so much the time prior was hugely DISAPPOINTED this time, it was very small in size and very salty. All of us had an issue with the flies, very ignoring trying to swat and eat.
Had the biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns. Gravy was nice and thick. I made a mistake of adding salt and pepper. It is already salty enough from the sausage. Hashbrowns (potatoes and onions) were awesome.
Went here for the first time, and the food is delicious. The buffet is a reasonable price. If you want some down home food, this place is great.Update: My mom and I stopped here to try their breakfast for the first time, and it was delicious and very down home. The pancakes were nice and fluffy with a good crispness around the edges. The hash browns were very flavorful. And the bacon is not like the bacon you get at the grocery store. It’s much better! I tried a piece of my mom’s biscuit, and that was good too. I hope to come back again for breakfast.
Really delicious! Will definitely go back on the way through town.
Our first time back after the remodel and COVID closedown, and the restaurant looks brand new and gorgeous! Gift shop is sharp, clean and streamlined, with all of your tasty favorites still available. The menu is also new in appearance, but your favorites are still there, and delicious, as always. A great treat after so long in quarantine...👍😉
Excellent food, pleasant staff and good food price
Wonderful buffet of southern cooking. To comply with coronavirus rules, the buffet is now behind glass and your choices are served by gracious servers. Very generous servings. The whole restaurant has been updated with pleasing decor. I did find the metal chairs uncomfortable so switched for a wooden one.As usual they have a huge variety of peanuts in many different size cans and packs. They also had huge homemade cookies and cinnamon rolls for sale. Yummy!
Excellent food awesome service! Love the new look too.
I was only going there because we were taking my mom out to eat. I'm vegetarian and so it wouldn't be my choice. I understand their fried chicken is very good and my brother and his family really like the carrot souffle. My husband was unimpressed with their ham biscuits. I had a grilled cheese which was good.
One of the last old fashioned diners on a forgotten road (Route 460) in Southern VA with quick and tasty takeout for these times of social distancing.Remodeled and updated menu since Guy Fieri was here over a decade ago. The fried chicken, spoon bread, and peanut pie are the specials that keep travelers coming back. A lovely church sits across the road that you can visit, also a next door peanut shop to get local 🥜
Place an order for pick up. Was told it would be ready in fifteen minutes. I got there in about fifteen minutes had to wait in line for fifteen minutes to pick up my order. It was not ready. I had wait another fifteen minutes for my order. When she brought it out it did not have my onion rings. So I had to wait for them. Waiting an hour for two sandwiches and onion rings is not good.
Renovations are nice. Bathroom was clean and fresh. Food was not so good. I ordered meatloaf and it tasted like it didn't have much meat in it. It had brown gravy. I took two bites and that was enough for me. Collards were good. My husband's pulled pork was dry. No barbeque sauce was offered. He asked for Texas Pete. I filled up on biscuits which were good. Won't stop there again unless they open the buffet. That way if I don't like something, I can try something else.
Authentic Southern food deliciously prepared. If you're there on the weekend the buffet is outstanding
Absolutely amazing food. A bit slow but probably due to everyone trying to find their groove again after opening again cause of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than likely I will give them another try later down the road.
Virginia Diner is a southern jewel nestled in the quaint city of Wakefield. The restaurant's claim to fame is hands down its fried chicken. I recommend trying the macaroni and cheese along with a side of collards and a tall glass of ice tea. Treat yourself to the many buffet offerings on the weekend or plan to order from the menu during the week. Be sure to stop in the restaurant's store for some of the best peanuts on the East Coast.
Place was clean and wait staff was attentive. We had the buffet and the food was served hot and fresh
Food and service was amazing!!! Ordered the BACON MAC ATTACK with sweet potato waffle fries sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar...to live for. Had to take half of it home...so much food!! Worth every penny.
Always amazing, their carrot souffle is to die for! Always scratch made always awesome...
Good olé country cooking at its finest. Service was good but on a Sunday it’s so busy that it is hard to get a seat and keep up with everyone coming in and out. Love tasting all the peanuts while we wait and the staff is friendly and very attentive. Lived in the area all my life and have made many trips up and down 460 and always stop by for a bite when possible. I will say it’s time maybe for some updates on the inside as you can see the aging of the buffet and also the front area. Maybe just some new stuff would be in order to spruce the place up a bit. As always thanks for a great meal!
Not what it use to be for sure....Ordered a burger and it should have came out with a cattle tag on it. Rawest burger I ever had. Truth, first review I ever wrote about a restaurant. Never again, sorry.....nor would I ever recommend. Should have spent more time updating your cooks instead of your floors. Not to mention no paper towels to wash hands in the bathroom. Manager never came over and talked with me. PS. Fork had a metal bur that scratched up another party members lip.......hope I don’t get sick, just saying Good Luck!!!
The updates look great - I had to double-check that I was in the right place, even after having been a customer for my whole life!! The food was as fantastic as it's always been
Decided to stop here and get a bite to eat during a road trip with my wife and youngest son. The food was beyond delicious! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. What more could you ask for? Do not miss a chance to get something to eat here. You will be glad you did!
Amazing, as always! Been going here for 33+ years and it still tastes perfect!!!
The General Mgr , Ricardo, is a huge asset to Va Diner. He truly cares about the establishment and takes great pride in his work. The food is wonderful too !!
It took entirely to long to get the food I ordered and the grilled chicken I got wasn't cooked. It was still raw. I carried it to the motel and put it in the microwave to finish cooking it. I know not to go there again. And they were not busy.
